Some clarification on cannabinol (CBD). Hemp oil is not CBD, it has some CBD but not nearly the concentrations you want.
You want CBD extracts from hemp oil. The way you can tell is by the price ($300-$500) per tube. Hemp has more CBD than cannabis (Marijuana) and is legal in all states.
You want the CBD extract to have the highest THC by law. The small amount of THC is just as effective as high amounts in brain tumors (this is debated – could be wrong), and the effects are negligible.
Hemp takes all of the heavy metals out of the soil – this is where it gets tricky. You must buy from an organic source, preferably one that is GMP certified. If it is not organic, say Chinese hemp, it will do more harm than good.
Personally, I feel that CBD was instrumental in my chemo & radiation treatment. My first MRI after radiation my doctors were very surprised that the tumor was no longer visible.
We often focus on what Brain Cancer has taken from us however I feel it is important to look at the transformation within the very fabric of our soul. So many wonderful attributes I have gained.
Hope, Compassion, Understanding, and most of all Love.
All of us have the opportunity to touch others by our plight – While we lean on one and other for support. We should take glory in our sufferings because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.
I am thankful this Christmas to know what Joy truly is – Helping one and other.
I know I have shared this letter before but felt it pertained to this post and my overall mission in life.
“Dr.Golby, Every time I would try and write you a note – I could never find the words to express my gratitude. How can you possibly thank someone for saving your life, there is simply no answer?
It took me several weeks to discuss my surgery to anyone without getting emotional. Not because of any pain but how much I was touched by what you and your team had done. It is something that will always stay with me. You truly are an angel.
What you do each day is a gift, even though the choices you make are extremely difficult. I thought to work with computers was demanding, I can only imagine having the human dynamic involved. Had I died on that operating table I would hold no ill will because I know you take great pains at doing your absolute best.
In a strange way, my tumor was the greatest thing that ever happened to me; I now know the difference between living each day and loving each day. It’s funny how we glide through life forgetting what important, love, memories, friends and family is. All the medical advances and we don’t even understand consciousness; I think it is whatever we make it be.
That being said, I have since found the answer to my question “how can I reimburse you?” – The purpose of our lives is to make a difference in someone else’s. I will be sure to pay it forward.
Anxiety is a creation of our modern day ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) culture.
We were not made to sit at a desk working all day staring at a monitor, multitasking like a mad man, boss is constantly on you, dealing with kids, the list goes on and on When you add in the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, along with a brain tumor, you have a recipe for success – ahem – sarcasm.
Let’s think back a hundred years ago, then to the beginning of human existence – our societies were hunter/gatherers, and from there we moved to agriculture. Since the discovery of Oil (1879), we now live in an “Industrial Society.” It’s important because – One – Nature used to be part of our daily lives – Two – We didn’t have cell phones to stare at a thousand times a day – The study below shows taking a walk in nature reduced depression/anxiety scores in 71% of participants.
Personally, I have dealt with it for the past fourteen years, and as with most, I was afraid to see a doctor because it was a mental health issue. I significantly exacerbated the issue by self-medicating (Drinking Alcohol) which worked great when I was drinking. However, the next morning my anxiety was off the charts – Creating a vicious cycle.
After brain surgery, they gave me Ativan which changed my life. I could finally look someone in the eyes when having a conversation – Wow, this was awesome – Not so much. Ativan over time gives you terrible depression and the addiction profile is insane. When I stopped taking it just after three weeks of use I had hyper-anxiety. I thank God I did not continue because the withdrawal from long term use can cause psychosis among a whole slew of other things. I still use Ativan but only when absolutely needed.
So I continued my search, my primary care recommended anti-depressants, but my NO was against it because there are some studies that show it can have negative effects on tumors. Also, I am not depressed I’m a positive, happy guy.
I didn’t want drugs, so I tried 5-HTP, Kava Kava, St.Johns Wart, Valerian, & Yohimbe to name a few. They all sucked – Most made me fall asleep or feel awful. I dug in and spent a year trying supplements that did nothing.
On my never-ending quest to find new Brain Tumor Supplements (nothing to do with Anxiety) I came across Angelica Sinensis. So I punched it into Amazon and purchased “Free and Easy Wanderer – Xiao Yao Wan” (Link Here)
I was not expecting what happened. My anxiety completely disappeared, I felt amazing. No anti-depressants & no anti-anxiety meds – Most of all no drugs.
I fixed my anxiety with a bonus; Angelica Sinensis kills brain tumors (Link Here). Although when I purchased, I was unaware that “Xiao Yao Wan” had other ingredients.
All in all, I couldn’t be happier, this supplement is a miracle for me.
A year ago today I had a Grand Mal Seizure only to find out it was a brain tumor.
Since then I had an awake craniotomy, thirty days of radiation while taking low dose chemo, four thousand doctors appointments, four cycles of high-dose chemo, worked full time as an IT Manager, bought a house, had a newborn, started my certifications on ethical hacking, and continued with my online e-commerce business.
What have I learned from all this? That I am one resilient mother fu*ker.
I will end this post with Bible Verse that sums up my life.
Romans 5:3-5 3 Not only so, but we[a] also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not put us to shame because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
My first memory was driving with my parents in the back seat looking at a street light – squinting my eyes as the lights would prism. I was about six years old and recall telling myself this is a strange alien home, and I would like to return to to the light, where I came from.
It was before my understanding religion.
Flash forward 31 years, Halloween night, Oct 2015. I am riding in an ambulance after urinating on myself while foaming at the mouth – Once again remembering that memory.
At this point I am yelling at the EMT’s to drive me home, I likely fainted from drinking too much the night before. I remember them looking at me with disdain like I just did heroin.
They proceeded to tell me I had a fifteen minute Grand Mal Seizure – I had no clue what the hell they were talking about I was young with no medical history, healthy as a horse. Tall (6,2), slim (160 pounds) Great job as an IT Manager, beautiful/loving wife. I had life by the short and curly’s.
Had you had a seizure before one EMT asked? I responded, what’s a seizure? I am not epileptic (all I could think of). At this point, I felt tired and extremely foggy.
Once being received in the ER, they immediately did a cat scan, also loaded me up with Ativan, dissociated at the time. My wife was with me when a doctor came and said: “Nick, you have a brain legion.”
Thinking it was something minor, I was like OK, can I go home now? Boy was I wrong…
Immediately after I remember my parents and my pastor showing up, at this point I was confused. They sent me to do an MRI with contrast.
Seconds later I felt what would equate to a blast to the back of the head. One measly picture showed my brain with a baseball sized primary brain tumor. At this point I was in a parallel universe, I was fine, no sickness, nothing – now facing certain death.
Take a minute to think about that. Have you ever contemplated your death? What that means and to do so in fractions of a second.
I wept like a small child thinking about my pregnant wife and family living without me. Confused pain just filled me thinking why God could do this to me.
Your brain thinks in two separate ways, rational (It is up to God when I die, I am not going to let this bother me) and emotionally (Holy Sh!t what just happened).
The next few days friends and family visited me, I contemplated my life. My only wish was I did more to serve others.
Doc, what are my options? What is my next step?
Nick, this has to be removed – we will schedule surgery as soon as possible.
Ok, what is my prognosis?
We don’t know without a biopsy.
Lucky my Saint mother who works in the medical field put me in touch with the head of Neurosurgery at Brigham and Women’s, Dr.Golby.
A week later I did an awake Inter-optic MRI Craniotomy; the tumor was in my speech center, and they wanted me awake to remove as much as possible. Told there was a chance I could never speak again; even death was a possibility. The surgery was six hours – during the first three hours, I was pretty drugged up, so I remember very little.
The last three hours I remember everything, coherently talking while Golby would slice the tumor out. I equate it to have a someone behind you with a paper cutter, removing brain tissue. By the way, they say there is no nerve ending in your brain, calling B/S on that one. I never felt pain like that – emotional and physical I was just drained, crying.
I told the Doctor, you are an angel, cut it all out – I repeated this several times.
She removed 93% of the tumor, and I am still a fully functioning human being yet left with something that was beyond anything I have perceived before. Let me say your perception on life changes.
I had an indescribable love for this Doctor that I barely knew – she saved my life. I wrote her this letter and sent flowers.
Dr.Golby,
Every time I would try and write you a note – I could never find the words to express my gratitude. How can you possibly thank someone for saving your life, there is simply no answer?
It took me several weeks to discuss my surgery to anyone without getting emotional. Not because of any pain but how much I was touched by what you and your team had done. It is something that will always stay with me. You truly are an angel.

In a strange way, my tumor was the greatest thing that ever happened to me; I now know the difference between living each day and loving each day. It’s funny how we glide through life forgetting what important, love, memories, friends and family is. All the medical advances and we don’t even understand consciousness; I think it is whatever we make it.
That being said, I have since found the answer to my question “how can I reimburse you?” – The purpose of our lives is to make a difference in someone else’s. I will be sure to pay it forward.
Forever Thankful. -Nick
Her response back was something I cannot say as I hold it to be dear to my heart.
The anticipation for the next appointment was agonizing as I would find out what kind of tumor I had. Keep in mind 90% of primary tumors have less than a five-year prognosis.
I had a Grade 2 Oligodendroglioma. As she said it, I immediately keyed it into my iPhone looking for median survival times and I found on Wikipedia…
“In one series, median survival times for oligodendrogliomas were 11.6 years for grade II and 3.5 years for grade III.“
She stopped me and said this, “Nick you could get hit by a car tomorrow, I would never give a prognosis.”
Furthermore, I had the 1p/19q deletions (no clue what that means) and another genetic mutation that means my tumor would responded to chemotherapy and radiation.
They told me I had three options… Do Nothing. Chemotherapy (Temodar) & Radiation or do Clinical Trials. I ask her what she thought was best and was told to do the drugs that work, that I had a plenty of time. Funny how you hold onto the notion that medical advancements in the next 15 years could save me. However, it’s just that, conjecture.
I left with every emotion one could go through, from anger, hate, sadness, love, fear, anxiety, etc… I also quit a 14-year smoking habit right after surgery which furthered my lunacy. Smoking had nothing to do with the tumor; I say that because I wanted to blame myself.
Watching my parents and four siblings suffer from this was bearable. I then decided I would overcome this tumor but how? Is it incurable?
So I did what any sane IT Manager would do and scoured the internet for new treatments. Reading through clinical trials, etc.
I met a Neuro-Oncology at Dana-Farber and decided my fate. Temodar (Chemo) 7 months and six weeks of radiation. While sourcing the internet, I came across a study by GW Pharmaceuticals – using cannabidiol (CBD) while taking chemo and radiation. I bought the best CBD on the market $400 for a few grams and started treatment.
I also did a lot of Juicing (Carrots, Beets, Broccoli, Blueberry’s, spinach, kale, acai, etc…)
My six-week radiation treatment has since ended and will be getting an MRI soon. I will be sure to update you all of the results.
The takeaway from this story is to stop worrying about everything your cannot control. Make a difference in someone’s life, and it will change yours.
I know why this happened to me – to help you.
If I could have brain surgery and quit smoking – nothing was impossible.
There is no doubt that cannabinoids – both natural and synthetic – are interesting biological molecules. Hundreds of scientists around the world are investigating their potential in cancer and other diseases – as well as the harms they can cause – brought together under the blanket organization – The International Cannabinoid Research Society.
Unfortunately, due to the legalization movement along with Marijuana being controversial, there is a significant amount of misinformation on the internet.
Because the Government made Marijuana a Schedule 1 it makes it damn near impossible for pharmaceutical companies to research. However, those laws are slowing changing so I do think we will see more cannabis-based medication going into the future.
All current medical data was done on mice or in the lab (except one clinical trial below). In mice models cannabis shows the best effect when use in vitro with another agent such as chemo or radiation. On its own It does appear to kill tumor cells by apoptosis. Here is the problem 4 out of 100 or 4% of murine models translate into humans.
There is no doubt it has a place in the management of seizures as we have seen in the positive phase II study GWPH just released.
Nine people with advanced, terminal glioblastoma multiforme – an aggressive brain tumor – were given highly purified THC through a tube directly into their brain.
Eight people’s cancers showed some kind of response to the treatment, and one didn’t respond at all. All patients died within a year, as might be expected for people with cancer this advanced.
I used cannabis with radiation/chemo and I do feel it had a significant impact but in all reality how do I know – it could have been chemo & radiation?
My doctors were “surprised” that my tumor was no longer visible on the MRI which gave me hope. However, I am very lucky to have both mutations and a Grade II strait olie – Which responds very well to treatment.
Most people are unaware that there are negative studies regarding cancer and cannabis:
I have seen a significant amount of news about someone curing themselves using Marijuana however they are completely irrelevant.
Why?
Malignant Brain Tumors have an extremely high reoccurrence rate and can go into spontaneous remission. If you have 1,000 cancer patients taking cannabis and 1 goes into spontaneous remission the press has a field day. If you follow up on the stories, not to be gruesome, you will see most are dead.
A perfect example is my personal case, you cannot see any tumor on an MRI – Does that mean I don’t have cancer, absolutely not.
Pharmaceutical Companies Can’t Patient:
Foxgloves (Digitalis) are a useful source of chemicals called cardiac glycosides, first purified in 1785 – a date widely considered to be the beginning of modern drug-based medicine. These drugs are now used to treat many thousands of people around the world with heart failure and other cardiac problems. But the entire plant itself is highly toxic, and eating just a small amount can kill.
As another example, although the antibiotic penicillin was first discovered in a fungus, it doesn’t mean that someone should munch some mold when suffering an infection. In fact, the bug-beating powers of ‘natural’ penicillin are confined to a relatively small range of bacteria, and chemists have subsequently developed a wider range of life-saving antibiotics based on the drug’s structure.
My gut feeling is that cannabis medicine for cancer will be an offshoot of THC/CBD for maximum effect.
Pharmaceutical Companies Do Not Want a Cure:
Modern medicine has cured:
Smallpox, Polio, Measles, Yellow fever, Malaria, Typhoid fever, Whooping cough, Pneumococcal disease, Tuberculosis (TB), Tetanus, Diphtheria, Chickenpox/shingles, Bronchitis, Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye), Otitis, Media (Ear Infection), Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD’s), Skin or Soft Tissue Infection, Streptococcal Pharyngitis (Strep Throat), Traveler’s diarrhea, Upper Respiratory Tract Infection, Urinary Tract Infection (UTI), Stage I Cancer (In the majority of cases) & Stage II Cancer (In some cases)
So let’s take just smallpox as an example which was cured by modern medicine – Prior to the vaccine, it killed over 300,000,000 people.
Government Has a Cure For Cancer:
Joe Biden’s – Our Vice President’s Son – just died of Brain Cancer, kind of puts a hole in that story.
Cancer survival rates have doubled over the past 40 years.
A bill in the US was just passed to accelerate a cure for cancer.
Marinol (Dronabinol)
This can be prescribed by your doctor for a slew of cancer symptoms, however, most doctors do not is because of the side effects.
Me personally – I hate the effect of THC but I find CBD before bed quite enjoyable. CBD slows brain waves and is terrible for working any type of mental job, I feel dumb the following day.
My Conclusion:
We need real human clinical trials which are going on right now (GWPH) and without human data everything else is guess work based on Mice / Lab studies.
Personally, I am much more interested in Nano-Technology, Immunotherapy, CRISPR, & Enzyme Inhibitors to name a few.

Gente, hoje eh o dia da operacao de Nick, que alias ja deve estar comecando. Por favor, mandem suas oracoes e pensamentos positivos para que tudo saia bem com ele. A operacao vai durar umas 8 horas aproximadamente. De acordo com os ultimos exames (MRI) so sera possivel remover 70% do tumor. E os outros 30% vai depender do resultado da biopsia (que indicara o tratamento adequado).
Nick is going into surgery right about now. His surgery will be a whole day ordeal, until approximately 5pm. Please send all your prayers and positive vibes once again.
Obrigada/Thank you.

Nick, thank you for your heartfelt update! Please know that you have many ppl praying and routing for you!!! During worship last night, Maisy insisted that we lift you and Bruna up. There were so many needs we didn’t have a chance to share yours and she was so concerned… I put her at ease by letting her know that many in the congregation are already praying for you;). Be encouraged Brother!!! You are loved!!!

= Nick’s surgery was very successful, the doctors were able to remove over 90% of his tumor (which is way better than the original 70% they discussed). Nick will be able to go home soon. Thank you for all the prayers and love!

Sending our love and prayers for a speedy recovery Nick. We love you Bob and Rose. 🙏
One of the main side effects of chemo and radiation is central nervous system (CNS) damage.
Here is the short and skinny of all the articles below, all you need to do is take a cold shower every morning. As much as it sucks during winter living here in New England, it made an astounding difference in the quality of my life.
A cold shower reboots your central nervous system every morning and increases your immune system.
I switch from hot to cold slowly, the colder, the better.
